1962 Hofner Super Solid III
This vintage classic is still fulfilling its role as a bargain entry to high quality historic instruments nearly 60 years after it was made. It still plays beautifully and sounds superb.
Manufactured in the early 60’s the Super Solid models were designed to occupy a middle ground between ‘affordable’ offerings coming from Japan and American made Fenders. Like many production models of the era specifications are inconsistent throughout the range. Some examples have no serial numbers and some have serial numbers added by dealers with a stamp. This guitar features a factory applied serial number under the lacquer on the headstock which dates the guitar to 1962.
Featuring a much sort after nitro ‘Red Glow’ finish (more common examples are wrapped in vinyl as was the fashion) and a body that rings beautifully, this guitar is a players choice and something of cult classic. A similar spec model can be seen in the collection of Mark Knopfler.
The electrics are all period and two the pickups have been serviced by Kent Armstrong in 2005. The machine heads are also original.
