Elysian Guitars produce a small number of guitars a year, individually hand-crafted from personally selected premium tonewoods. Each one is the product of patience, precision and meticulous attention to detail which combine to create contemporary instruments of stylish elegance, outstanding tonal response and superb playability. Allowing beautiful wood to speak for itself is the essence of Elysian.
Elysian currently build three sizes to suit a variety of playing styles, but the term ‘model’ is a guide not a constraint. Matthew, who has worked with world reknowned luthier Andy Manson, makes a small number of instruments a year and each one is unique, not part of a production run. These guitars are made from the many fine sets of premium tonewood Matthew has accumulated over the years and different combinations, along with cutaway and other custom options, are available to order.
The largest of my current models, at just under 16" the SJ is full-bodied without being ungainly. Delivering a well-rounded tone with power and clarity in the bass, it's versatility makes it a great choice for a variety of styles.
Matthew calls this particular guitar 'The Ent', as the back has a tree face shape in the grain. The oiled finish allows for movement and maximum tone, whilst allowing the figuring of the Madagascan rosewood on the back/sides and colour of the Redwood to show through beautifully.
